Notification of road surface works - A421

I wish to inform you that Kier will shortly be carrying out treatment and spraying on the road surface at the above location on behalf of Highways England. This work will test new products with a view to prolong the life of road surfaces.

Subject to weather conditions, we plan to complete this work in three stages:

Pre-treatment of road surface – Monday 17 July and Tuesday 18 July 8pm – 6am under full eastbound carriageway closure and Wednesday 19 July to Friday 21 July 8pm – 6am under full westbound carriageway closure

Asphalt preservative spraying - Monday 24 July to Monday 31 July 8pm – 6am on weekdays only under full eastbound carriageway closure and Tuesday 1 August to Tuesday 8 August 8pm – 6am on weekdays only under full westbound carriageway closure

Post-treatment of road surface – Monday 4 September and Tuesday 5 September 8pm – 6am under full eastbound carriageway closure and Wednesday 6 September and Thursday 7 September 8pm – 6am under full westbound carriageway closure

We advise all motorists to use the signed diversion route as we have carefully chosen this with suitability and safety in mind. We also encourage all drivers to stick to speed limits and follow appropriate signage to ensure the safety of those working on site and fellow road users.

Diversion Route

The diversion route will direct traffic onto the Old A421, which runs parallel to the A421.

The route will be as shown below in green:

The Parish of Brogborough lies by Junction 13 of M1 which is in Mid Bedfordshire. Many of the properties used to be owned by the brickworks but as the brickworks closed the properties became privately owned or purchased by Housing Authorities. There is a shop and a chinese takeaway restaurant and the community is blessed with a village hall which is run by the Brogborough Social Ammenities Association. There are two lower schools, middle schools and upper schools not too far away from the village.
